Chessie system locomotive roster. While all three companies shared a common paint scheme of yellow vermillion and blue actual ownership of the equipment was denoted by the reporting marks CO BO or WM. They can be reviewed in either a PDF or JPEG format. Any unit that existed from late 1972- late 1986 is listed below.
Chessie rostered on average about 2100 locomotives 1000 BO 1000 CO and 100 WM and 350 were GP40-2s. Initially thought to be short-term tendency the practice evolved into a long-range strategy used even today. Below are links to an all time roster for each of the three.
